Due to the niche research direction, we have been unable to find suitable reviewers. We are truly grateful to Associate Editor Qiao Qiao for not rejecting our submission due to the obscurity of our research area, and for persisting in helping us find reviewers! After a long 8 months, our submission in September 2023 was finally accepted on May 16, 2024. This is the first paper of mine in the Physical Review series during my PhD, and it was no easy feat. Submitted on September 27, reviewed and revised on October 26. Two reviewers raised ten minor issues. Reviewer 1 asked several questions of interest, suggested acceptance after responses. Reviewer 2 raised some micro-mechanisms, which we believed were not relevant to the content of the paper. We answered by combining literature and recommendations were made to answer the Editor's questions seriously. As a result, we spent one or two months specifically conducting literature research, replying and revising the paper in detail. After submission, the paper was immediately accepted. Although it took longer this time, the efficiency was overall high. APS reviewers tend to ask very detailed physical questions, which are common across journals. The power of the editor seems to be significant, and if the editor is interested, the chances of acceptance are much higher

I am in the field of optics. In terms of optics, it seems unlikely for PRap to return to the first quartile. There is a significant difference between PRap and other top-tier journals such as NC, PRL, Light, and Optica. Furthermore, there are an increasing number of domestic journals that have taken up some of the spots in the first quartile, making it difficult for PRap to squeeze in.

In addition, in my field, the quality of PRap is comparable to that of Optics Letters (OL), which is classified as a second quartile journal.

The first review took one month, with two people agreeing to review it. It was considered a minor revision, with each person raising three questions. Three days later, the revised version was replied to and sent back to one of the reviewers. After nearly a month, the feedback was received, and they agreed to accept it directly. Overall, the review speed felt quite fast, and the quality was also assured. I hope this journal will continue to improve.

For niche directions, it feels much harder than APL. Several times, APL can be accepted while PRApplied doesn't even get sent for review. Finally, after going through various rejections from reviewers, this long and arduous work of over two years has been accepted.
