This is because different SCI journals have different policies regarding the number of communication authors. For SCI journals that only accept one communication author, if the article lists multiple communication authors, the first author will be automatically selected as the communication author. For SCI journals that accept two communication authors, it is possible to list two communication authors. Other requirements follow the same principle. In other words, the number of authors listed as communication authors must comply with the regulations of the target SCI journal. The first author of an SCI paper is the person who has made the greatest contribution to the experiment and writing of the article. They are the person whose name appears first in the list of authors. However, in collaborative work, it is common to have multiple first authors. There is no specific rule regarding the number of co-first authors, as it is closely related to the workload, length of the paper, publication requirements, and institutional recognition.
