Antioxidants & Redox Signaling (ARS) is the leading peer-reviewed journal dedicated to understanding the vital impact of oxygen and oxidation-reduction (redox) processes on human health and disease. The Journal explores key issues in genetic, pharmaceutical, and nutritional redox-based therapeutics. Cutting-edge research focuses on structural biology, stem cells, regenerative medicine, epigenetics, imaging, clinical outcomes, and preventive and therapeutic nutrition, among other areas.

ARS has expanded to create two unique foci within one journal: ARS Discoveries and ARS Therapeutics. ARS Discoveries (24 issues) publishes the highest-caliber breakthroughs in basic and applied research. ARS Therapeutics (12 issues) is the first publication of its kind that will help enhance the entire field of redox biology by showcasing the potential of redox sciences to change health outcomes.

ARS coverage includes:
-ROS/RNS as messengers
-Gaseous signal transducers
-Hypoxia and tissue oxygenation
-microRNA
-Prokaryotic systems
-Lessons from plant biology

Hello, should the review fee be paid up front or after the paper is accepted? My paper is now searchable on PubMed. Initially, I selected non-OA, but now I received a notification for page charges and I'm not sure what to do

Great journal with comprehensive experimental design requirements, covering phenotypes, mechanisms, molecular, cellular, and animal experiments. It has a certain level of difficulty in submission, with 4 reviewers raising questions from multiple perspectives, and acceptance after two rounds of revisions. The review process is relatively fast. It is a pity that such a good journal did not make it to the top 1% of Chinese Academy of Sciences journals, which is not cost-effective for Chinese researchers

Good journal. I would like to mention it because the review turnaround time is very stable and the first review basically gives the result within one month. The journal requires that experimental articles must have in vivo experimental data. I have a full set of clinical in vivo and in vitro, so I think that the editor would still appreciate it. When I submitted the manuscript, it was requested major revisions twice continuously. After the second revision submission, it was not sent for review, and editor accepted it directly. There was a total of six reviewers, and everyone asked some questions, so a lot of supplementary experiments were needed to convince the reviewers. I thought that editors have more authority to accept articles than reviewers. Articles that editors agreed would continuously be revised based on reviewers’ review comments. At first, I thought that there would be minor revisions such as format after the major revision, but it was directly accepted the next day after the second major revision, which was unexpectedly. The only uncomfortable thing is that the impact factor has dropped again, and I feel a little bit unworthy about it.

This journal uses paid reviews… so the review period is quick (not against this concept). The journal mandates in vivo experiments. Our research was extremely novel (no papers published on the topic before), and the journal accepted it. This reflects well on the editors, as they are clearly in the field and up on the current literature.
