Polymer Degradation and Stability deals with the degradation reactions and their control which are a major preoccupation of practitioners of the many and diverse aspects of modern polymer technology.

Deteriorative reactions occur during processing, when polymers are subjected to heat, oxygen and mechanical stress, and during the useful life of the materials when oxygen and sunlight are the most important degradative agencies. In more specialised applications, degradation may be induced by high energy radiation, ozone, atmospheric pollutants, mechanical stress, biological action, hydrolysis and many other influences. The mechanisms of these reactions and stabilisation processes must be understood if the technology and application of polymers are to continue to advance. The reporting of investigations of this kind is therefore a major function of this journal.

However there are also new developments in polymer technology in which degradation processes find positive applications. For example, photodegradable plastics are now available, the recycling of polymeric products will become increasingly important, degradation and combustion studies are involved in the definition of the fire hazards which are associated with polymeric materials and the microelectronics industry is vitally dependent upon polymer degradation in the manufacture of its circuitry. Polymer properties may also be improved by processes like curing and grafting, the chemistry of which can be closely related to that which causes physical deterioration in other circumstances.

The editing process is not too slow, I was rejected in about a week, but I am a bit confused by the reason for rejection. The article mainly focuses on studying the curing kinetics of resins using non-isothermal DSC, but the reason for rejection was "the activation energy data obtained from non-isothermal TGA is meaningless" ... Dear editor, I did not conduct a thermogravimetric analysis. Even if you had told me that "analyzing the relationship between the curing process and the theme of the journal 'degradation and stability' is not significant", I would have been willing to revise, conduct additional experiments, or accept rejection. I did not explicitly mention the use of DSC in the cover letter, but who analyzes the curing process using TGA? Did I misunderstand the editor's intentions? I am a bit frustrated, so please analyze and criticize if it was my mistake. I am open to feedback and appreciate it.

After submission, how many days does it take for the status to change from "with editor" to "under review"? It has been 6 days since my status changed to "with editor", and there has been no update. I heard that this journal usually processes submissions quickly, but it seems slower for mine

Submitted on December 5th, 2022, accepted on January 18th, 2023. Major revisions were completed within less than a month during the external review process. After revisions, minor modifications were made to the reference format, which were done very quickly. The timely impact factor has already exceeded 100%, and it is possible that it may surpass 6 next year.
