The editors process rejections quickly. However, if the review process takes a long time, it indicates that the reviewers have not recommended rejection, and the editors are still reviewing the manuscript.

The submission involves developing a new computer-aided diagnosis method that combines images with artificial intelligence algorithms. The review process usually takes less than a month, so it is very fast. The editor rejected the submission but provided over 20 suggestions for revisions in hopes of resubmission. After being under review, there were over 40 comments from two reviewers and the associate editor. There was one major revision and three minor revisions before finally being accepted after 200 days.

Submitted in March, received the first major revision in May, the second major revision in July after revising, and rejected in November. What's ridiculous is that the reviewer said "done well job", but the editor said it wasn't good enough. Can't help but laugh!

Optional OA or non-OA. Very rigorous journal, difficult to submit to. Review speed is moderate, first review in 2 months, with 3 reviewers + AE providing very fair and detailed comments. Editor gave rr after revisions, resubmit, then rejected again in 1 month. This time with 4 reviewers, although they acknowledged the improvements made to the article, they also raised new concerns and negated the rationale of the paper. Why didn't you mention this earlier, reviewer?

Give everyone a method to judge whether to accept or reject the manuscript. According to the AE guidelines, the final decision to accept or reject should be made by the editor-in-chief, while decisions on minor revisions, major revisions, or reject and resubmit do not require this. Therefore, if your manuscript jumps from the Editorial Evaluation - Editor stage to Decision Letter Being Prepared stage instantly, it is probably a revision, but if it takes some time, it is likely a rejection. If after minor or major revisions the manuscript instantly jumps to the next stage, it is likely still a revision, but if it takes some time, it is likely an acceptance.
