The Journal of Food Composition and Analysis publishes manuscripts on scientific aspects of data on the chemical composition of human foods, with particular emphasis on actual data on composition of foods; analytical methods; studies on the manipulation, storage, distribution and use of food composition data; and studies on the statistics, use and distribution of such data and data systems. The Journal's basis is nutrient composition, with increasing emphasis on bioactive non-nutrient and anti-nutrient components. Papers must provide sufficient description of the food samples, analytical methods, quality control procedures and statistical treatments of the data to permit the end users of the food composition data to evaluate the appropriateness of such data in their projects.

The Journal does not publish papers on: microbiological compounds; sensory quality; aromatics/volatiles in food and wine; essential oils; organoleptic characteristics of food; physical properties; or clinical papers and pharmacology-related papers.

First submitted to aquaculture, was transferred to the journal and guaranteed a review
Reviewed on 4.27, a total of three reviewers
Review completed on 5.14, major revision required
Uploaded on 6.25, requested a one-week extension due to an additional experiment
Minor revision on 7.12, with only 2 reviewers at this point, requested detailed experimental procedures and an additional schematic diagram, using actual experimental figures
Submitted on 7.16, reviewed by one reviewer on the same day
Although no response was received from this reviewer on WeChat, it was thought to be another long wait
Received an acceptance email on 8.1
In summary, the focus was on experimental methods, the editor seemed familiar with methodology, and the process was not as slow as rumored. The editor was quite efficient, and the three reviewers were prompt.

The level of the magazine is acceptable. I have submitted articles twice. The first time there were 9 reviewers, most of whom were foreign experts. The reviewers were very rigorous in their approach to the issues. The second time there were 5 reviewers and after making the required modifications, the submission was accepted smoothly. Overall, it is still a good magazine.
