Well, let me share my submission experience. I submitted my paper in July of the second semester of my second year of graduate school, and it wasn't under review until September. Then, in April of my third year, close to graduation, I received the first round of reviews (one accept, one major revision, one minor revision = rejection). I followed up two or three times in between, and the editors kept asking me to wait. Two of the review comments mentioned that the methods were not innovative and did not compare with the latest methods of the year. Since I submitted in 2023 and used the latest methods from 2023 as a baseline, the review process took too long and crossed into the next year, which the reviewers deemed as not new. In the end, my paper was rejected. When submitting to this journal, it is best to avoid crossing over into the next year, as the review process is extremely lengthy (I also blame myself for being stubborn).
