The review process of HESS is special. After receiving the manuscript, the editor will make a preliminary decision. The approved manuscript will enter the discussion, and the editor will assign two reviewers to review it. Other readers can also review it. All comments are public in the discussion forum. It should be noted here that at this time the author need tell the reviewer and the editor whether he agrees with the comments and whether he will be revised later, without substantive revision of the manuscript. Of course, many people will skip this step, but I think this step is still very important. The discussion time is 2 months. After the end, the editor decides whether to allow readers to make further changes based on the results of the interaction between the author and the reviewers, and attaches a formal reply. The subsequent process is the same as other journals. All in all, authors who submit to HESS should be very willing to interact with reviewers and other readers. After the article was accepted, the proofread was very nice, and a special editor will polish the words and sentences.
