Submitted in June 2023, received feedback in November, much slower than I expected. The main reason may be that it was difficult to find reviewers. I saw the system searching continuously, and eventually found 10 reviewers. There were two reviewers in the end, with ratings of 1A and 3A respectively. The second reviewer said the article was well written, but the topic was not in geophysics (I wrote about isotope geochemistry) and suggested that another journal would be more appropriate, hence the 3A rating. The editor finally requested major revisions, but I explained that GRL accepts articles from all fields of earth science, so it was accepted. It feels like peer review is the most difficult part. The publication fee is $2900, which is really expensive. Good luck to everyone!

Geoscience research has become too specialized, resulting in a scarcity of professionals in the field. Many papers published in recent years may only be read by a few hundred people. GRL is an association journal, and associations have unique objectives. It is possible that the association believes that lowering the impact factor is more in line with its interests, so they relatively encourage the publication of niche but solid and rigorous works.

The opinions were very professional, and it felt like they were both experts. There were no minor comments, and each reviewer provided 4 main points of feedback, mainly questioning the validity of the article's conclusions. The editor requested major revisions.

Accepted on 7.25, took a total of two months.

There used to be two reviewers, but recently it seems like there are three reviewers. The editor for the first submission is also different. I wonder if the difference in the number of reviewers is causing the difference in editors. This journal is well-known in the field of geophysics, and it is a prestigious indexed journal. Currently, it is ranked as a 2nd tier journal. It seems like there are no 1st tier journals for atmospheric electricity unless submitting to a comprehensive 1st tier journal. Hopefully, it will return to the 1st tier this year.

The top journals in this field (not related to geology), just below sub-journals, are more highly recognized than JC, JGR, ACP, and so on. I have always admired them. I submitted twice, the first time it was rejected after review, and later published in a professional journal in the top tier. A year later, I regrouped and changed to a completely new topic, and finally succeeded. I don't want to submit to GRL anymore, they are too arrogant and the process is torturous, I can't stand it!!!
