The editor is quite diligent, but the invitation of reviewers is also very cautious. Firstly, invited 2 reviewers, but no one agreed. Then invited 1 reviewer, still no agreement. Invited 3 reviewers again, no one agreed. Invited 3 reviewers once more, still no agreement. The editor tried again, invited 6 reviewers, and this time 2 agreed to review.
Review completed on February 21, 2025. Both reviewers were relatively quick.
Each reviewer provided one comment. One suggested adding more discussion, and the other suggested supplementing genetic toxicity testing. Considering the article is already quite lengthy, I explained the plan for addressing these in the future.
Returned on February 27, 2025, waiting for judgment.

Three days after submission on 10th October 2023, the status changed to with editor, and for more than four months afterwards, the status remained unchanged. On 15th December 2023, a reminder letter was sent, and the editor-in-chief said they would contact the responsible editor, but for the next two months, the status remained with editor. Just when I couldn't bear it and was about to write a second reminder letter, on 18th February 2024, the review comments were returned, asking for minor revisions.

I was very surprised. It turns out that it can be done like this, without the under review status, the editor quietly sent it for review. I don't know if all submissions are like this or just mine. Anyway, it's very surprising
