PLOS Computational Biology features works of exceptional significance that further our understanding of living systems at all scales—from molecules and cells, to patient populations and ecosystems—through the application of computational methods. Readers include life and computational scientists, who can take the important findings presented here to the next level of discovery.

Research articles must be declared as belonging to a relevant section. More information about the sections can be found in the submission guidelines.

Research articles should model aspects of biological systems, demonstrate both methodological and scientific novelty, and provide profound new biological insights.

Generally, reliability and significance of biological discovery through computation should be validated and enriched by experimental studies. Inclusion of experimental validation is not required for publication, but should be referenced where possible. Inclusion of experimental validation of a modest biological discovery through computation does not render a manuscript suitable for PLOS Computational Biology.

Research articles specifically designated as Methods papers should describe outstanding methods of exceptional importance that have been shown, or have the promise to provide new biological insights. The method must already be widely adopted, or have the promise of wide adoption by a broad community of users. Enhancements to existing published methods will only be considered if those enhancements bring exceptional new capabilities.

How long did the first review take? 177****2124 No nickname 2020-03-18 Posted :: Acceptance rate: about 25% Review time: about 6 months It's really frustrating. I submitted in July 2019, got major revisions in the first review, couldn't find a reviewer for the second review, dragged on for eight months, and withdrew the submission today. Originally, I was supposed to graduate smoothly, but now I probably have to extend it. If I have another chance, I will never submit again. I heard they are losing money every year! The editing efficiency is still low! That's enough, it's all tears, maybe I'm just that unlucky child!

Sharing experience: It's really frustrating. I submitted in July 2019, received major revisions in the first review, couldn't find a reviewer for the second review, and it took eight months. Today, I withdrew the submission. I was supposed to graduate smoothly, but now it looks like I'll have to extend my graduation date. If I were given another chance, I would never submit again. They say it's losing money every year! The editorial efficiency is also low! That's enough. It's all tears. Maybe I'm just an unlucky child!

One of the most reputable journals in computational biology, I was very lucky to have one of my articles accepted. The reviewers were very professional and their feedback significantly improved the quality of my article. The editors were also especially nice, responding promptly to all my queries and providing support

The most recognized journal in the fields of mathematics and computational biology. Bioinformatics has a slightly different style, emphasizing biological significance more. The proportion of papers published by Chinese scholars (including co-signatories) in PCB is less than 5%. While in Bioinformatics, it is over 15%. It can be seen that the difficulty of publishing papers in PCB

Review speed: 2.0 | Submission acceptance rate: 25.0 Experience sharing: A relatively good journal in computational biology (said to have ranked second in computational biology journals in 2012). It is generally difficult to get accepted. At that time, I was not confident about submitting my paper, but with encouragement from a foreign supervisor, I decided to submit it. First is the editor's invitation and initial review (about 10 days); then comes the external review, with three reviewers participating (about one month); after making revisions based on reviewers' comments, a deadline is usually given (in my case, one reviewer agreed and two reviewers suggested additional data, giving two months for submission); the second review is usually quick (about two weeks); followed by the editor's decision phase (about 10 days); finally, you will be notified of the payment and official publication date. In addition, the journal requires authors to do their own formatting, with a lot of requirements for images and tables, and you can see many published ones

The journal in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology is good. I have submitted 3 papers, with two accepted after review and one rejected after review. Compared to other bioinformatics journals, PCB values the refinement of biological problems and has higher requirements for the storyline. In addition, statistical requirements for methodological innovation articles are more strict
